A missing dog has been returned to its owner - after taking itself on a 72-mile walk, it has emerged.
Owner Lottie Ramsay lost Austin the terrier when she was walking him around New Forest, starting his eight-day adventure, reports the Southern Daily Echo.
A distressed Ms Ramsay and her mother spent hours putting up posters and searching for the missing mutt, but had no luck.
She told the newspaper: "After the first week had gone, I did not think I was going to see him again
"I thought he must have been stolen by someone who found him."
During his wander, the dog was spotted at Bramshaw, Cadman's Pool, Stoney Cross and Sandy Balls in Fordingbridge.
He was eventually found by a woman in Thatcham - which is 72 miles away and in a different county.
Earlier this week, grough.co.uk revealed that a dog was discovered on Scafell Pike in Cumria, after going missing two weeks before.
