A South Yorkshire racetrack hosted an event which saw dogs other than the usual, super-fit greyhounds competing for glory, it has emerged. The Highgate Stadium, in Goldthorpe near Barnsley, was taken over by dog rescue charity Lurcherlink, which held some less than conventional races, reports the Sheffield Telegraph. Dogs of all breeds and abilities, from young and fit hounds, to older and slower canines, were invited to take part, with even deaf or nervous pets taking part. In addition, there was a special 'tripod race' for three-legged dogs who have lost limb to illness or accident, the newspaper reports. However, all the dogs that took part in the event have been re-homed by the charity, with many being rescued from dog pounds of unsafe situations. Last week, the Daily Mail revealed a border collie was successfully re-homed after spending 11 years in an animal sanctuary.
