Pet owners reminded to check for dental cover in cheap insurance search

Pet owners have been urged to ensure their pet insurance policies cover dental care.
It is estimated by Mintel that at least one million of the UK's cats and dogs could be suffering from dental problems.
Vets believe the problem could be even more widespread. Veterinary surgeons interviewed by Sainsbury's Bank revealed that 63 per cent of the cats and dogs they treat need their teeth cleaning and 29 per cent require more expensive treatment.
With only one in three pet insurance policies covering dental care, owners are advised to shop around for cover and to not simply purchase the cheapest available policies.
David Pickett, pet insurance manager of Sainsbury's Bank, said: "Pet owners should take care to choose a policy that provides dental cover in the event of both illness and accidents."
Recent research found pet owners to be increasingly aware of the need to purchase insurance for their pets, with the pet insurance industry expected to be worth double this year its value in 2000.
