German chancellor admits parking woes
Posted :14-11-2006
German chancellor Angela Merkel, who may be entitled to cheap lady driver insurance, has admitted she has problems parking her car.
Ms Merkel, who owns a two-door Volkswagen Golf with her husband, has expressed a wish to downsize to a Mini because of her poor parking skills.
She was quoted as telling Bild am Sonntag newspaper: "In other words, I'm the incarnation of all those cliches. Because women are bad at parking cars I need a small car."
An earlier national survey by Conoco Phillips found the majority of female motorists may be risking their women driver insurance, as they were perceived to be worse than men at parking.
Some 5.6 per cent of respondents said they thought women were better at parking than men, compared with 48 per cent who thought men were better than their female counterparts.
Ms Merkel told the newspaper that if she could afford it, she would buy a Mini because the car is "practical, small and pleasant to look at" with "a certain rakish style", adding that she required double the tuition of some other drivers to pass her test.
