Female motorists 'go the extra mile'
Posted :19-12-2006
Scottish women drivers put their female car insurance at extra risk during the Christmas period, clocking up an additional 257 million miles, according to one insurer.
Female car insurance provider Sheila's Wheels discovered that each of Scotland's female motorists will cover an extra 240 miles each in the month of December at a cost of £33 million in parking charges and fuel costs, according to the Daily Record.
Separate research by One4All Gift Vouchers from the Post Office showed that shoppers in the UK are willing to travel for more than 1.2 billion miles to find perfect presents for their loved ones this Christmas.
The average total miles travelled in search of gifts is 26 over 11 visits. However, according to the findings, female drivers are not as likely to travel the same distance as men - 12 per cent of whom journeyed more than 100 miles for the ideal present.
Hugh Stacey, head of gifting at the Post Office, said: "It seems that people are literally going to great lengths to shop for Christmas presents."
Among the stranger presents chosen by the drivers for their nearest and dearest were a box of tic tac mints, an ice cream and an egg.
