Women 'twice as likely to throw in driving towel as men'
Posted :28-02-2007
Female learner-drivers are twice as likely to abandon the pursuit as their male counterparts, it has been revealed.
According to research from car insurance provider Churchill, ten per cent of Britons have abandoned driving lessons after spending £3.2 billion on the endeavour.
Churchill claims that failing to pass caused depression among respondents and furthermore resulted in learner drivers being physically sick prior to driving lessons.
"Learner drivers face financial pressure to pass their test first time with as few lessons as possible," commented Frances Browning, a spokesperson for the car insurance provider.
"But, it is worth taking the time and effort to become a confident driver by the time you pass."
The study revealed that the number one reason that women fail driving tests is because of their observations at junctions (23 per cent), while over a fifth of women drivers fail on their reverse parking technique.
Other areas on which female motorists fall down included inappropriate speed, poor mirror use and incorrect road positioning.
