Insurance for women 'can cost less'
Posted :03-05-2007
Car insurance for women can often cost less than that of their male counterparts, according to new research.
A study by Australian insurance group AAMI found that the cost of women's insurance claims tends to be lower than men's and premiums are reduced overall.
It also discovered that 77 per cent of females have experienced a car crash compared to 84 per cent of males, while men's collisions have an increased likelihood of being "more serious".
In addition, the research found males behind the wheel can be more aggressive than females, resorting to road-rage tactics such as rude gestures or verbal abuse.
"Men need to be more aware of how they function and to work harder on their sense of social awareness and social responsibility," remarked consulting psychologist John Cheetham.
"Men are biologically more aggressive, more impatient and more willing to push the boundaries," he concluded.
Although some companies provide car insurance for women, other factors such as the driver's experience or vehicle engine size may also be considered in the cost of the premium.
