Wear correct shoes, urges women's insurance firm
Posted :14-06-2007
A women's insurance firm is advising ladies behind the wheel to wear the correct type of shoe while driving.
According to research from Sheila's Wheels, which provides car insurance for women, eight in ten female motorists wear inappropriate footwear when driving and may be putting themselves and others at risk.
One in ten women said they had experienced a "near miss" or actually been involved in a car accident due to unsuitable footwear, such as high heels or flip flops, which can slip off and potentially cause feet to be taken off the pedals.
"Stilettos, sling-backs and strappy sandals aren't the sensible choice when it comes to controlling a car," warns Jacky Brown, a spokesperson for Sheila's Wheels.
"It's astonishing that so many women are putting themselves, their passengers and other drivers at risk by wearing the wrong shoe."
Car insurance for women may provide a wider selection of premiums for females who are looking to switch or buy new cover.
