Psychologist: Why women name cars
Posted :17-07-2007
Female drivers tend to give their vehicles names because they see them as separate entities to themselves, women's car insurance customers may be interested to hear.
A psychologist has explained that while men express their feelings by talking about their cars, females are more comfortable doing this directly and consequently do not see their vehicle as an extension of themselves.
Commissioned by BMW and reported in the Daily Mail, Dr Iain McRury also said that men relax and drive with only one hand on the wheel because they consider cars to be part of themselves.
"Women drive with two hands because they see the car as more 'detached'," he added.
Other theories put forward by the authors of the research included a suggestion that people only sing on the way to work - not on the way home - because they see their car as a "cocoon" and an extension of a bath or shower.
In related women's car insurance news, an expert in the sector recently stated that females can receive more competitive quotes as they are often considered to be less aggressive behind the wheel.
Andrew Paddick, director general of the Institute of Insurance Brokers, said lady drivers tend to be more careful when on the roads and may pay less motor insurance costs than males.
