Three-quarters of women 'scared behind wheel'
Posted :23-07-2007
Over three-quarters of women's car insurance customers may be nervous or scared when they take to the roads, a new survey has found.
According to research from the Saga Group, 23 per cent of female motorists said they were not worried about anything while behind the wheel, compared to half of the male respondents.
In addition, one-fifth of lady drivers admitted they were nervous when travelling on a motorway, although three per cent of men agreed with this.
Another worry for women on the road included parking properly; this was found to be a concern for 16 per cent of the fairer sex but seven per cent of men.
"[It] highlights the stark difference between men and women when it comes to being confident on the roads," Saga chief executive Andrew Goodsell told the Scotsman.
"Although some would argue that a little more caution might in the end produce a safer driver."
The news may be of interest to those looking for women's car insurance, which can often lead to reduced premiums.
