Women's car insurance customers 'a lower risk'
Posted :03-08-2007
Women drivers are considered to be a lower risk than their male counterparts and may pay less for their premiums, it has emerged.
Citing a number of reasons, James Carnduff, a spokesperson for women's car insurance firm Diamond, said that companies tend to pay out less money for female claims than those of males and as a result they are often seen to be safer motorists.
Research by Diamond, which is part of Admiral, also found men to be 1.5 times more likely than women to have incurred a motoring conviction, which Mr Carnduff said may be due to the more "aggressive" way in which males drive.
"In terms of the number of accidents, there's not a big difference there; it's the type of accidents that they're having," he explained.
"Men are more likely to write a car off or cause major damage, whereas women's accidents tend to be much smaller - minor clips and bumps."
Although claims can vary in value, all car insurance policies could provide financial assistance should an accident happen.
