More women becoming 'car savvy', says insurer
Posted :06-08-2007
Women's car insurance customers are not afraid to get under the bonnet, fix their vehicle and carry out basic maintenance tasks, according to new research.
A survey by Post Office found that over half of female drivers were able to check their car's oil level and more than one in five were capable of changing a flat tyre.
Some 44 per cent said they filled up the anti-freeze during the colder months and half of those questioned check their own air pressure to ensure their tyres are at the correct level.
However, although the research found women to be more car savvy than many may have expected, Post Office's head of insurance explained how important it is to get breakdown cover, which can be offered with a women's car insurance policy.
"Even with good maintenance, cars can and do break down so we advise all of our customers - male and female - to ensure they have adequate breakdown cover," said Phil Ashkuri.
Women may also find that female car insurance can offer a better deal than a generic policy.
