Wear suitable sunnies, says women's insurance firm

Although the UK may not be enjoying a heatwave, the glare of the sun can be distracting for drivers and some 12 million women's car insurance customers could be putting themselves at risk by wearing unsuitable sunglasses, it has been claimed.
According to women's car insurance company Sheila's Wheels, three-fifths of females choose style over safety when purchasing sunglasses, neglecting the importance of driving practicality.
Indeed, some of the most popular styles could be unsuitable for wearing behind the wheel, the firm discovered.
Wide-armed pairs can limit peripheral vision, while very dark lenses can prevent full visibility and some coloured lenses can distort vision.
"We'd like to encourage all women to keep a sensible, practical pair of sunglasses for driving at hand in their glove box, free of scratches and smears," Sheila's Wheels spokesperson Niki Bolton said.
She added that wearing unsuitable shades can be just as dangerous as wearing none at all.
Women may be choosing to wear a certain style of sunnies at the moment, as they have been made popular by celebrities such as Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie.
The current trend for many is to don an oversized pair of glasses, often in a bright colour.
