Women's car insurance firm reports on "showroom walkouts"
Posted :07-09-2007
Many female drivers are being put off buying a car and even walking out of a showroom which is losing retailers millions, a women's car insurance firm has discovered.
In a new report from Sheila's Wheels entitled Car Showroom Shake-up, it was found that more than half (58 per cent) of the respondents thought showrooms were male-dominated and 44 per cent had walked out as they felt intimidated by the atmosphere.
Some 20 per cent of women's car insurance customers claimed they had backed out of buying a certain car due to offensive comments made by the sales representative, which Sheila's Wheels estimates has lost retailers £907 million in 2007.
"Britain's car industry is not meeting the needs of the modern-day female driver," remarked Jacky Brown, a spokesperson for the company. "Women won't tolerate unwelcoming surroundings and patronising or intimidating behaviour."
Women may often find that lady driver insurance is cheaper than its mixed-sex counterpart, although providers can still calculate premiums using data such as the make and model of the car.
