Motorists urged to conduct car checks for cheaper policies
Posted :22-02-2005
Female motorists are being urged to carryout regular safety checks on the cars, a move which could reduce the risk of accidents and reduce the cost of insurance policies.
Women drivers are less likely to carry out their own road vehicle safety checks than men, according to a survey conducted by road safety charity Brake and Green Flag Motoring Assistance, something which could increase their accident risk.
Motorists are urged to carry out regular checks on their tyres, yet just ten per cent have women do this once a week, compared to 30 per cent of men, while one in five drivers do this less than once every three months.
A quarter of female motorists also rely on other to carry out vital checks to their lights and over a third rely on others to check their water and oil levels, according to the study.
"Women are known to be safer drivers than men, but this survey shows there is no room for complacency," said Mary Williams, chief executive of Brake.
"Regular, simple checks of tyres, lights, oil and water could save a life and should be a matter of priority for all drivers."
By regular ensuring that vehicles are in full working order, accidents are less likely to occur, something which could reduce car insurance policy costs.
