Female drivers urged to shop around for cheap car insurance
Posted :16-05-2005
Female drivers have been advised to shop around for car insurance and not to automatically buy from female-only brokers.
Gender is used as a key determinant in the cost of insurance premiums, as women are seen as being a 'low risk' group for insurers.
This point is highlighted by Home Office figures which state that men account for 97 per cent of dangerous-driving offences and 83 per cent of speeding convictions.
As a result of these trends, a number of insurers and insurance services now cater purely for women, yet these insurers do not always provide the best value for money for female drivers, This Is Money reports.
This is reflected by Louise Moore, a recruitment consultant who changed from a woman-only insurance provider to a mainstream insurer, stating: "After checking out a number of different quotes, I decided to switch because I could get a similar policy at a cheaper price."
All consumers are urged to shop around for insurance products. As a result of the competitive market, consumers can often save on their premiums by shopping around for cover.
