Specialist insurers 'not the cheapest option'
Posted :17-05-2005
New research has highlighted the extent to which women could save money by purchasing cover from mainstream insurers opposed to women only specialists.
Nearly three-quarters (72 per cent) of women with car insurance from women only insurance could save on their premiums by switching to mainstream cover, according to research from Tesco Car Insurance.
A recent study conducted by Direct Excellence for Tesco Car Insurance, estimated that by making this change women could save an average of at least £85 on the price of their car insurance policies.
Commenting on the figures, Allan Burns, head of Tesco Car Insurance, said: "The car insurance industry universally acknowledges that women are safer drivers and most companies price accordingly.
"Our research dispels the myth that the self-styled specialists offer the best deals to women motorists."
Mr Burns urged all women to shop around for cover and to investigate the cost of insurance from specialist providers, yet urged them not to automatically assume that cover from women only insurers is the cheapest and best option.
